In November of 2020, right after the election and in the midst of the most uncertain time of the pandemic, my husband, Marc, and I moved to an apartment in Rye, NY, in the center of town, and a short walk from our daughter’s house. Having the support of Anna and her husband Bojan seemed to be the best way to continue to wait for the pandemic to ebb and for vaccines to be developed and distributed. Our "five" would be a safe family unit and we could help in the care of their first child, now 6 months old. We would be part of his life and growth in a time when change is lightning fast.
My husband had just endured a catastrophic illness and long hospitalization and this was time for his recovery. Our routine was simple and that helped Marc to regain his rhythm and clear his mind. We spent mornings around the apartment and then we walk to Anna’s. Afternoons were spent playing with the baby on his playmat, straightening up around the house, organizing toys and eating together most evenings. With Marc safely at Anna’s, I was able to walk and explore around Rye, a beautiful town by the Long Island Sound.
